Lince Salisbury were part-sponsors of the British Motorcycling Sand Ace Championships which were held at Vazon Bay in Guernsey on Saturday 23rd June. There were two championships at stake, the 500cc class for ‘solos’, and the 1000cc class for sidecars.
For the 500cc championship this was the first running of the event for 20 years and for the 1000cc championship the first in living memory. The entry list included many top UK national and international grasstrack and longtrack riders but also included top local riders from Guernsey and Jersey and a double world sidecar speedway champion from South Australia.
The racing was spectacular and in particular the sidecars where speeds in the region of 95 mph were reached. Winner of the 500cc solo class was Danny Warwick from Poole in Dorset and the winners of the 1000cc sidecars Rob Wilson and Terry Saunders from Maidstone in Kent. The event was proclaimed a resounding success and it is hoped that it will be instituted as an annual event.
